STAR INDY LEAGUE PITCHER JOINS VIPERS

The Calgary Vipers of the Golden Baseball League continued to bolster their pitching staff as they head towards the final month of the season and the 2008 playoffs, today signing outstanding pitcher Dane Renkert.

The 6’1” right hander had an incredible record of 13-1 for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the Northern League in 2007. He was 4-4 with the RedHawks this season before retiring and subsequently being released so he could remain closer to job commitments in Bellingham, Washington.

Renkert joins former Fargo teammate Joe Sergent in the Vipers rotation which already boasts GBL All-Star and Pitcher of the Month Evan Greusel and left hander Dallas Mahan who is 3-1 and will rejoin the Vipers on a permanent basis in a week’s time.

Renkert will join the Vipers in California this weekend and will make his Calgary debut at Foothills Stadium against the Edmonton Cracker-Cats on the August long weekend.

The Snakes now head out on the road for a seven game roadtrip starting Friday July 25th at 8:05 PM (MDT) with the Vipers in Long Beach to take on the Armada and Evan Greusel (6-2) starting. Saturday July 26th at 8:05 PM (MDT) Nate Melek (4-2) will start and the three game series wraps up Sunday July 27th at 6:05 PM (MDT) with Joe Sergent (2-0) getting the ball.

Calgary will then play in a matchup of the two first half champions when they take on the Orange County Flyers Monday, July 28th at 6:05 PM (MDT) for a double-header. Wednesday, July 30th the two teams will play another double-header starting at 6:05 PM (MDT) to conclude the four game series.

The Vipers have a big weekend planned against their arch-rival Edmonton Cracker-Cats when they return to Foothills Stadium on August, 1st at 7:05 PM (MDT). Friday night will be Vipers Key Chain Giveway Night with the first 1500 fans receiving that gift. Saturday the Vipers and Calgary Stampeders are teaming up for a baseball-football doubleheader. The baseball game begins at 2:30 PM (MDT) and starting at 4.00 PM (MDT) football fans will receive free admission by presenting their Stamps-Riders ticket. Vipers fans will be allowed to park free on Vipers property if they chose to move their vehicles from the McMahon Stadium lot starting at 4:00 PM (MDT).
